Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?

Simply click on Register Now and fill out our short registration form.

What’s the difference between the 3 different ticket prices?

This year’s self-selected sliding scale is designed to let women choose the admission price that works best for their individual situation. There is no difference in access to programming or support for the three rates. The only tangible difference is that those selecting the Benefactress Rate will be able to deduct $25 of the fee on their 2021 taxes (US only, consult your tax professional). There are also scholarships available, so nobody has to miss out due to economic challenges.

Usually for the WFS conference I have to pick out my workshops ahead of time. Will I need to do that this year?

Since we don’t have to worry about room set-up, there is no need to register for specific workshops. Simply show up for the sessions that you want to attend live.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and eCheck.

Why do you want my mailing address for a virtual event?

Shhh! You’ll ruin the surprise! (Don't worry - WFS will never surprise you with a package with the full name of our organization on the outside. Everything is shipped in plain packaging with "WFS, Inc." in the return address.)

Is this conference closed to include only women in recovery?

As with all official WFS events, we ask that only women who are personally engaged in recovery from a substance use disorder participate. WFS celebrates all expressions of female identity and welcomes Sisters from the LGBT spectrum.

Is there a one-day pass available? I have to work on Saturday.

Because we are making all sessions available for the week after conference, there is no need to miss anything. All registrants will have the opportunity to watch as many sessions as they desire.

I really want to participate in the conference but I can’t afford it. Are there scholarships available?

Yes! We want all women in recovery to attend, regardless of their ability to pay. Simply fill out our Work Scholarship Application. We’ll ask you to help with a small task like assisting a presenter or writing some thank you notes after the event.

Connecting with other WFS sisters is what conference is all about for me. How will I be able to form connections in a virtual conference?

It is a bit different making connections in a virtual conference, but it is certainly possible! Presenters will be having breakout periods where you will be able to converse in small groups (never recorded), every conference page will have a discussion section, and there will be many drop-in video lounges available outside of formal sessions which won’t be recorded.

Who leads the workshops?

Workshop presenters and keynote speakers are a combination of New Life Program participants and recovery field professionals. Peer Presenters are often also recovery or related field professionals. All presenters are knowledgeable about the Women for Sobriety principles and philosophies, and make an effort to ensure that information shared is consistent with and complimentary to the New Life Program.

Will there be Q & A during the workshops and keynote addresses?

Yes, Q and A will be a part of most if not all sessions. Depending on the size of the group, questions may be taken by voice or by typing.

Are the live workshops limited to a certain number of people?
Will there be a fundraising event as part of the virtual conference like there is for the physical conference?
What about the silent auction?

What do I need to be able to attend the conference?

You can use just about any device – laptop, desktop computer, notebook, tablet, cell phone, or even a touchtone landline – to access the workshops and presentations. Live workshops will use Zoom, so you may want to download and test that during our pre-conference activities (or test it beforehand here). There will also be a conference website with information and connection opportunities, so an internet connection and browser is highly recommended. To get the best interactive experience during sessions, you will want to have a camera, microphone, and speakers.

Where do I find the conference website?

The url for the event website will be emailed to women who have registered one week before the event.

Can I join on my iPad?

Yes! Zoom is compatible with almost any device and everything else can be accessed through your regular internet browser window.

Do I have to purchase a Zoom account to participate?

No. On most devices, you can attend as a guest, without any Zoom account at all, although you may wish to create a free Zoom account to enable a more streamlined sign-on experience.

Can I tune in by phone instead of video or listen on my computer without showing up on the screen?

Zoom has mobile apps that you can use to access the sessions. You can also choose to phone in to sessions using a touch-tone phone. If you call in, only a few digits of your phone number will appear on the participant list – the rest will be replaced with asterisks (*).

I understand all sessions will be recorded to watch for up to two weeks after the conference weekend at my leisure. How do I access the content? Can I download the videos to watch later?

We will have a special conference website with embedded movie files. There will be a discussion section for each workshop, so you can continue to engage with other participants for an additional two weeks. To respect the privacy of our presenters, downloading will not be possible, and you will be asked to agree to not attempt to record or download sessions as part of your registration.

What will Women for Sobriety do with the recordings after the 2-week access has expired?

We’ll remove them from the internet and keep them on our private servers for historical purposes.

What if I have technical problems during the conference?

When I watch the live programs, will my face show up on the screen?

If you choose to enable your video, your face may be visible to others. To prevent this, do not activate your camera.

Can I still interact during the sessions even if I don’t want to appear on any recordings?
When I click on the zoom link(s), what name will show up with my face? How can I change what name is displayed?
Will I be recorded at all?
I heard about something called zoombombing. Isn’t Zoom unsafe?
How will my privacy be protected?
